The Widening Participation & Learning Team are proud to provide a number of quality assured programmes and training courses designed to meet the individual requirements of each learner.

  • Apprenticeships deliver a unique opportunity to earn a wage while working alongside experienced staff offering scope to gain job specific knowledge, experience, qualifications and skills.
  • Traineeships. Supporting young people aged 16-24, traineeships are designed to develop the skills necessary to enable progress onto an apprenticeship and other forms of sustainable employment.  

  • Prospect. The Widening Participation & Learning Team in conjunction with Job Centre Plus run a training programme aimed at providing the unemployed with essential work skills and training to help support people into paid work. 

  • English & maths Functional Skills. Aimed at helping all Trust staff improve everyday English & maths skills in a friendly setting leading to nationally recognised qualifications. 
  • Work Experience. A work experience placement at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will provide you with a great opportunity to learn about work in general and the NHS in particular. We offer a unique learning experience in many wards and departments which can help influence your decisions regarding the rest of your education and career pathway. 
  • Volunteering. This role is to help make patients’ hospital stay more comfortable by chatting, listening, reading, making a cup of tea or mealtime assistance, running an errand or escorting them on a short walk, as well as help coordinate activities such as games, singing and general stimulation for patients on the wards.
